Today was the official announcement of the Oscar's and the dark Knight received 8 nominations for the following categories:

ACTOR IN A SUPPORTING ROLE - Heath Ledger
ART DIRECTION - Art Direction: Nathan Crowley, Set Decoration: Peter Lando
CINEMATOGRAPHY - Wally Pfister
FILM EDITING - Lee Smith
MAKEUP - John Caglione, Jr. and Conor O’Sullivan
SOUND MIXING - Lora Hirschberg, Gary Rizzo and Ed Novick
SOUND EDITING - Richard King
VISUAL EFFECTS - Nick Davis, Chris Corbould, Tim Webber and Paul Franklin

Not too dis-similar from the BAFTA nominations. So one of the most successful picture of 2008 doesn't even get an acknowledgement for best picture or best director... very bizarre!!!
