IGN Comic have more exclusives. This time they are talking with Batman: Battle for the Cowl writer and artist Tony Daniel on this weeks release of BFTC #1 and what it has been like for him to be involved so heavily with this series.
This is a great interview and shows how passionate Tony is about the whole Batman story and the direction its leading...
IGN Comics: I think the first thought that struck me while reading Battle for the Cowl #1 was that you really hit the ground running from the very first panel and never let up. It seems like you could have started the issue from a number of places. What made you decide to begin where you did?
Tony Daniel: The way I visualized this story starting was in the middle of chaos. When I described my initial thoughts to my editor, he shared the same ideas, and they also wanted to hit the ground running. I thought it should open up in a very explosive way to set the tone for what the rest of the story is going to be, which is an action adventure story.
IGN Comics: You're tackling a ton of story in Battle for the Cowl, and it's easy to imagine it could have been six issues long. Knowing you had to tackle it all in three, did you have to reevaluate how you wanted to approach the plot? For instance, how are you going about structure it in terms of Acts? Will we see one act per issue?
Daniel: Well if I was going to structure this in three acts, I'd say the first act would probably end around the time when Tim Drake decides to take the cape and cowl from the trophy room and head out on his own. Act II would probably take off after that, and take us up to the middle of issue #3. That's kind of the way I'm plotting it.
IGN Comics: The first issue is narrated by Tim Drake. Are you going to switch narrators for each issue?
Daniel: Yes. We get to see the different characters' points of view and get into their mind a little bit. I think it makes it fun, and when you read it all together, it'll be very interesting to see each of their different views on what Batman is or who he should be. I think we really get into that with Robin's character, and the next two issues are really going to get into the soul of these characters.
