I should preface this by saying this is my first review so if it a little bumpy I apologize...
SPOILERS START!!
Iwas really interested to see who the new Batgirl was, when i left the comic book store and got back to my car i flipped through the first few pages to see who the new Batgirl was.
It has come as a surprise to very few that Stephine Brown is Batgirl, it was my guess from the start and in my view the most logical.
My only real complaint with this issue is the dialogue tends to miss the mark at times, i found myself rereading a couple of lines to see if i had caught it right the first time, (such as Robin's comment about Batgirl's involvement in the car race, and then Batman's response) but overall the story works nicely. I did like that Barbara Gordon has a part in this story line, and i would like to see more of her as this book continues, but not to the point where it overshadows the main character (but Gordon is a very important part of the Batman family and would to see her play a more active role in more books). The artwork is very good, it is easy on the eyes and the only thing that stuck out about it is the inconsistency of Batgirl's costume, some scenes have the mouth covered and then in the next panel it is not.
Overall despite a few things i thought this was a solid opening issue, the things that bothered me did not really take away from the story (such as the 'thunderdome' comment, and a freshman taking a level 400 class ) it ended well and i am excited for the next issue.
Good: pretty good story overall
Bad: a lot of dialogue misses the mark
Ugly: "you're in 'thunderdome' now"... uhhh seriously?!
Overall: 4 out 5
this wasn't a great review i am sorry i am getting over a migraine and pretty worn out, but i wanted to post something.
