IGN Comics: Tony, after a couple months away from the series, you're returning to Batman just as Bruce Wayne returns. But you'll continue to focus on Dick Grayson, correct? How does Bruce's return affect your series? Will we get to see Bruce in BATMAN?
Tony Daniel: Yes, that's correct. I am handling Dick Grayson as Batman in Gotham City. Bruce will appear once in a while but it's Dick's book.
IGN Comics: You've had the ability to work on stories featuring Bruce Wayne and Dick Grayson as Batman. As a writer, what separates the two in your mind? As an artist how do you differentiate them? Visually is it simply the costume?
Daniel: Dick is a bit more light-hearted as opposed to Bruce. Dick has a vulnerable quality about him, I think, whereas Bruce is a rock. He's so driven as Batman that it rules him. I'd like to see Dick try to balance his life better. But that might be easier said than done.
IGN Comics: No doubt seeing his mentor and friend back is a great relief, but how does Bruce's return affect Dick Grayson not only mentally but in terms of his mission? Will Bruce be a big part of his life or will his global mission really keep him outside of Dick's own trials?
Daniel: Dick, of course, is happy Bruce is back, alive and well. He's given the keys to Gotham. I'd like to really explore how Dick handles the return of Bruce. It can't be a permanent thing, but can Dick just go back to being Nightwing? There's lots of questions weighing on Dick's mind as the series progresses. That part is what I find fun and interesting. Exploring what surely has to be a complex set of emotions.
IGN Comics: Your opening arc is three parts and moves Batman over to Gotham's Chinatown district for his latest mystery. What else can you say about this opening chapter?
Daniel: There's a couple surprises, especially at the end of the first chapter. Dick meets a mysterious lady during a meeting at the Wayne corporation. He connects her business proposition to a set of murders that otherwise appear common.
