'Wizard' has managed to get the FIRST INTERVIEW with the 'Final Crisis' & "Batman R.I.P. scribe discussing the Caped Crusader and the shocking conclusion to issue #6 of DC's big event.
SPOILER WARNING: Do not read this interview if you don't want to have Final Crisis #6 spoiled for you. Be warned!
WIZARD: So, Grant. Bruce Wayne? What's up with that?
MORRISON: Yeah. He looks pretty rough on the last page there. [Laughs]
What's it like going down in history as the man who killed Batman?
MORRISON: It's great! At last! I feel like John Wilkes Booth. It's fantastic.
[Laughs] We're going to see pictures of you smiling with the thumbs up over Batman's dead body.
MORRISON: Yeah. That's me sitting in Batman's grave right now. No, personally for me, I'm coming back to this story. I don't know if this is exactly how I'll be remembered. I'd like to think I'll be remembered for later chapters.
This is obviously something you've been planning for a while.
MORRISON: Yeah. This is one of the things we planned to do way back at the start when Final Crisis was first getting discussed. I think this goes way back to 2006, when we started on it. Dan Didio and I tied it together with what was going on in "Batman R.I.P" to try and get everything to flow toward this.
This is the death of a massive icon that's been around for 70 years. Did you come up with the idea yourself? Did Dan approach you? How did the lead up happen?
MORRISON: I was kind of approached by Dan to do something like this once he heard the title of "Batman R.I.P," which for me was more of a psychological deconstruction of Batman. Dan saw a way to tie things together. And I keep on stressing for people not to think of this as death. This is part of the story. There's more cool sh-- to come. It'd be too easy to think of this as the end.
So we might not be seeing the last of Bruce Wayne?
MORRISON: Not necessarily, but there's going to be quite a few twists and turns on the way.
What was it like writing the lead up to the final confrontation between Batman and Darkseid?
MORRISON: It was fun. Obviously I've been leading up to this. I knew it was going to happen. I had a good time. [Laughs]
