BATMAN CRIME JAZZ
I missed the last episode of Brave and the Bold but this one fully made up for it giving fans a glimpse at the golden age of superheroes the Justice Society.
A quick glance at the teaser episode and you'd me mistaken for glancing an Agatha Christie novel... the classic who did scenario. Well this time the detective work isn't Poirot but Batman and the Detective Chimp, yes the chimp. It was little bizarre to watch and the expression on my kids faces said it all really ;)
Thankfully the teaser is easily forgotten as we are treated to a WWII beaching landing (with radio announcer commentary), of the Justice Society taking on Per Degaton and winning. Straight away we are thrust into the present (minus the original Black Canary), at a reunion of the society. A few points to mention, which is played out throughout the episode is how the society treat Dinah Lance who joined the team later on to train with along side a young Batman. Each hero has different views on how the Justice Society are view them and treated, while seeking approval during the episode.
During the reunion we see Per Degaton's assistant Professor Zee break into the Societies vault and free Per Degaton from suspended animation. Lots of fighting and destruction follows with a couple of scenes one of which involves Batman getting aged into his 80s/90s... and the Justice society becoming young men again. This change turns the table on Degaton who now has a evil arm of robots at his command, but his staff becomes damaged during the fight. When he turn the weapon on the Justice society his staff ends up aging him considerably, returning the society and Batman to their normal age. The most important aspect of the story is Black Canary regaining the respect from her piers.
Apart from the chimp at the beginning and hearing Clancy Brown (Lex Luthor / Superman animated series), returning to voice Per Degaton. Its also the first proper introduction my kids had the the Justice Society, which they enjoyed asking questions about and telling them about the the golden age of comics.
SCORE: 4/5
